We Reject Economic Fallacies —Cleric

A Muslim cleric and founder of Markaz-Us-Salam Islamic Peace Society, Sheikh Moshood Ramadan Jibreel, has kicked against what he termed economic fallacies over the removal of fuel subsidy.

On Friday, the cleric led a group of protesters challenging the Federal Government’s deregulation of the downstream sector. The protest, which started immediately after the Jumat service, was staged in the Abule-Egba axis of Lagos and environs.

P.M.NEWS gathered that over 3,000 members participated in the protest. Speaking with newsmen, Sheikh Jibreel, said: “Our mission is to support the general strike against fuel subsidy removal; and we ask the president to change his stand and revert back to N65 to ease the hardship on Nigerians.”

“When I thought about the hardship that the subsidy removal would visit on majority of Nigerians, I called my members together, discussed and we all agreed to carry out the protest to ensure peace, and wage war against bad governance and extra-judicial killing by the Police.

“Corruption, hardship and unnecessary killing is what we forbid in our Mosque. This was why I decided to mobilize my men and carry out the protest”.

“Our message to Mr. President is to remember that it is the people that voted him in and he should change his decision over the fuel subsidy. All we want is peaceful co-existence of the citizenry,” he added.
