Police Kill 2 Suspected Robbers
Police in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State on Monday shot and killed two suspected armed robbers along Funtua-Zaria road.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that following a tip-off from one of the victims, the police confronted a gang of armed robbers that blocked the road robbing travellers.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of Katsina state command, ASP Ibrahim Abubakar, confirmed the incident, adding that the robbers were six and two of them were shot to death during a gun battle with the police.
Abubakar added that the gang blocked the highway at about 1 a.m and a victim who managed to escape reported the incident to police and a team was mobilised to the scene of operation.
He said the other four robbers fled into the bush with gun wounds and police were on the search of their whereabouts.
PPRO said a gun was recovered along with ammunition, knives and cutlasses, adding that robbers used stones and woods to block the road.
NAN reports that residents trooped to the central police station in Funtua to see the corpses dumped within the premises.
It was reported that cases of armed robbery had become a source of concern among the residents as robbery incidents were often recorded in the area.
Armed robbers had within the week terrorised areas like Malumfashi where a pregnant woman named Ladi was shot to death while her husband Alhaji Samaila sustained injuries at Tura village.
