Nina, A Success Story Of Lagos Governor’s Cup
Prince Wale Oladunjoye has described the feat recorded by Russian Nina Bratchikova in the first round of the ongoing Australian Open as a success story of the Lagos Governor’s Cup Tennis Championship.
Nina has been a regular face in the Governor’s Cup in the last few years. The 29-year-old tennis star won the Women’s Singles of the 2010 edition of the ITF approved competition. Last year, which is the 11th edition, Nina won the women’s doubles event of the tournament.
In the ongoing Aussie Open, the Russian lady, who is ranked No. 136th defied all odds to upset No, 19th, Italian Flavia Pennetta in a thrilling encounter that ended 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to qualify for the second round of the Grand Slam.
P.M.Sports gathered that in what was expected to be a straightforward victory for the Italian, Nina demonstrated her fighting qualities. Despite the comeback challenge mounted by Pennetta, she managed to remain calm and secure the victory.
On the victory of Nina against Pennetta, Prince Oladunjoye, who is the Tournament Director of the Governor’s Cup since inception, said that Nina has a good future in tennis.
“I’m happy to hear the success of the player in the Australian Open which started on Monday. This justifies why the organisers of the Governor’s Cup bring emerging tennis stars to Lagos to rub shoulders in a good competitive environment at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan. I want to say that we’ll continue to attract the best to Lagos; an emerging mega city of the world,” Prince Oladunjoye said.
