9 Suspects Escape From Police Cell

The Edo state police command is yet to come to terms with how nine suspected robbers escaped from the Special Anti-Crime Squad (SARS) located at the state Police Command.

The robbers were said to have escaped two days after they were arrested and transferred from the Ogida Police station in the state to SARS.

P.M.NEWS learnt that after the robbers had planned their escape, one of them told a policeman on duty he wanted to get water.

Once the policeman came and opened the cell gate, the suspects descended on him after which they escaped.

Though the police authorities have remained silent about the incident, sources confirmed to P.M.NEWS that the policemen on duty the night the suspects escaped have been arrested and are currently in detention while a manhunt for the suspects continues.

When the Police Public Relations Officer in the state was contacted, he said the state Commissioner of Police, Manko Mohammed Umar, who has just resumed duty, was still holding meetings with the senior police officers and would react at the appropriate time.
