Lagos Junior League: Ikoyi Obalende Beat Lagos Island West

Ikoyi Obalende Football Club went top of the League 1 table with a comprehensive 3 – 1 drubbing of Lagos Island West at the weekend at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

Ikoyi Obalende were prior to the match 2 points behind Y.M.D Babes of Ojo and a point behind Rising Stars of Eti Osa East in a keenly contested title race.

Emmanuel Henry opened scoring for Ikoyi boys seven minutes into the match and set the tune for a very lively encounter. Abubakar Diggio doubled his sides advantage two minutes later.

The Eko Akete Boys stepped up their game, but their advances were effectively neutralised by Ikoyi Obalende side.

The new league leaders gave the Island boys a chance to have an incursion into their danger area, when they gave Hakeem Olabinjo safe passage to score in the 63rd minute and almost shot themselves in the foot minutes later but were lucky enough to escape unscathed.

Rafui Balogun sealed victory for Ikoyi Obalende team with a clinical finishing that sent their opponents’ goalkeeper gasping for breath.

Ikoyi Obalende are now topping the league table, but close rivals, Y.M.D Babes of Ojo, have a game in hand.
