2 Jailed For Kidnapping

Two sisters, Tokunbo and Adebisi Matuloko have been convicted for conspiracy and sentenced to three years imprisonment for their involvement in the kidnapping of their brother in order to sell their father’s property at Oshodi, Mafoluku in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

They had hoped that if they kidnap their brother, it will enable them to sell the houses and share the money among them.

The presiding magistrate at the Oshodi Magistrate’s Court, Mrs. Osho Adebiyi sentenced them to 18 months each with an option of fine of N100, 000.

The convicts, Tokunbo Bolade Matuloko, 53, and Olaide Adebisi Matuloko, 39, were alleged to have conspired with an Air Force officer now at large and kidnapped Ade Matuloko at their family house at 4, Arowojobi Street, Oshodi, Mafoluku, Lagos to an unknown place.

After their brother was kidnapped, they started and facilitated the sale of their late father’s houses.

They had agreed to sell the house for N50 million to a buyer without involving other members of their family.

But Ade later got to know of the plan. He resisted it and mobilised other members of the family, insisting that the house was a family house where their parents were buried, arguing that it was not proper to sell the houses.

The sisters sensing that he was becoming an obstacle to their desire to sell the two houses located at 11 Akinpelu and 4 Arowojobe Street, Oshodi, Mafoluku, Lagos, they conspired with some men including the Air Force man and kidnapped Ade.

However, luck ran out on them because the police rescued Ade after a tip- off and arrested the convicts while the Air Force man escaped.

They were charged with conspiracy, assault and kidnapping. They had pleaded not guilty to the three count charge and granted bail.

When trial commenced the court absolved them of the charge of assault, but found them guilty of conspiracy to wit kidnapping and were sentenced accordingly.
