Clearing Agent Remanded
Men of the anti-fraud Unit, Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Annex, Alagbon Close, Lagos, have arraigned a clearing agent, Julius Okuns, before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence.
The police alleged that the accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by Ufuoma Ubredi, claiming that the accused collected N1.5 million from her with a promise to clear five cars from the port for her.
She told the police that the accused identified himself as a clearing agent but failed to clear the cars for her and also refused to refund her money.
After investigation, he was charged to court for stealing, the offences, police prosecutor ASP Julius Oyakhilome, said are punishable under Sections 312 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, A. F. O. Potoku admitted him on bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties and adjourned the matter till 27 February, 2012 for mention.
The accused was moved to Ikoyi Prison when he could not perfect the bail conditions.
