DPO Beaten Up At Beer Parlour

A 30-year old man, Ifeanyi Okite, has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for beating up the Divisional Police Officer, DPO attached to Layeni Police Station, Ajegunle, Lagos State, southwest, Nigeria.

The DPO, CSP S.N Chijioke, was beaten up during a fight in a beer parlour in the area.

Okite accused the DPO of harassing and intimidating his people in the area and in revenge attacked the DPO at the beer parlour.

He allegedly assaulted Chijioke, smashed his handset and broke his necklace.

Some police officers at the station later came to the rescue of their boss when they were informed about the incident.

Okite was overpowered by the cops and arrested.

He was later charged to Apapa Magistrate’s Court with assault on the DPO.

He pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. E.O. Ogundare, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Okotie, however, could not perfect his bail conditions in good time and was ordered to be remanded in prison custody.

The matter has been adjourned till 2 March, 2012 for mention.
