Drivers Hail New IGP’s Appointment

The appointment of Mr. Mohammed Dikko Abubakar as the new Inspector-General of Police by President Goodluck Jonathan has been applauded by taxi drivers in Lagos State, southwest, Nigeria.

The association, through its president, Alhaji Lateef Oseni, said the appointment came at the right time when the country is in dire need of an experienced police officer to tackle the insecurity in the country.

Oseni described the new IGP as honest and hardworking officer that can be trusted with the country’s security at anytime of the day.

According to him, “we all saw his performances when he was police commissioner in Lagos State and when he was AIG Zone 2, there was low criminal record in the state and the Zone 2 in general. His appointment came at the right time.”

The president of taxi drivers advised the new IGP to ensure that the corruption in the force becomes a thing of the past, by setting up a special team to go after corrupt members of the force.

On the issue of Boko Haram menace, Oseni urged the new IGP to establish a good rapport with commissioners of police in the country as a means of finding a lasting solution to the activities of the sect.

The association also commiserated with the new Inspector General over the death of his wife, Hajia Mariam Abubakar, on Sunday evening.
