Madalla Bomb Blast Victims Buried Amid Tears

About 20 unidentified corpses of the victims of the Christmas Day bombing at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State, Northcentral Nigeria were given mass burial at the church premises this morning, as relatives and family members sobbed relentlessly.

Before their charred bodies were interred, a mass was conducted by a representative of the Pope assisted by Olubunmi Cardinal Okojie and other Catholic bishops.

Catholic and other clerics from within and outside Nigeria also attended the burial.

According to the parish priest, Rev. Father Isaac Achi, only six bodies of the December 25, 2011 bombing were claimed by members of their families leaving the 20 unclaimed corpses that were buried today.

A heavy security presence was noticeable in Madalla town and especially around the St. Theresa Catholic Church premises where the burial took place.

Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu members of the State Executive Council, representatives of the Federal Government and other important dignitaries witnessed the burial.
