KAI Detains Sanitation Violators For Three Hours
The first environmental sanitation exercise of the year, which took place last Saturday, took a new dimension on Lagos Island, Ikoyi and Victoria Island, as all violators arrested by the Kick Against Indiscipline Brigade, were detained at Osbourne Junction, Ikoyi, to observe the exercise with them from 7:30 am till 10 a.m.
The KAI Brigade, led by Semiu Karaole a.k.a. Kams, alongside Commanders Obe and Lawani, arrested over 200 Lagosians, including motorists, who had refused to observe the sanitation exercise. The violators were apprehended on Victoria Island, Kingsway and Osbourne roads in Ikoyi. Private motorists and passengers inside mini and luxury buses, who could not give a satisfactory account of why they were on the road at that time, were all ordered to disembark and delayed.
Some stubborn offenders, who started quoting non-existent sections of the Nigerian Constitution to buttress their illegal freedom of movement, were later transferred to Alausa, Ikeja office of the KAI Brigade to prove their innocence.
But those who showed remorse, including some motorists, were detained and asked to perform the exercise right on the spot, and they accepted their punishment in good fate.
After 10 a.m. they were allowed to go without being fined.
They jubilated and thanked Semiu Karaole and the other KAI officials for the civility with which they had been treated, and the new way of enforcement of sanitation laws in recent times.
They urged other KAI commanders in Lagos to emulate them in the exercise of their duty.
