Subsidy Removal, In Masses’ Interest —PDP Chief

The removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government has been described as a move that will at the long run be in the interest of the masses, giving the several benefits that will accrued from the policy.

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Chief Owolabi Salis, who said this during a chat with Political Platform, added that the concern of President Goodluck Jonathan was to improve the standard of living of Nigerians especially the poor masses.

“The President and his economic team are really concerned about the plight of Nigerians especially the poor masses and one of the ways is to create jobs through proceeds from the fuel subsidy removal.”

On the protests that trailed the subsidy removal, Salis noted that the reactions were normal under democratic system but fumed at the politicisation of the protests.

“Some people took the protest to the threat level which then moved the protest to sabotage, subversion and insurrection level hence the need for the President to act again through the deployment of soldiers to the streets of Lagos to protect the masses.”

While speaking on the security situation in the country, the former gubernatorial aspirant in Lagos cautioned the new Inspector General of Police,IGP, to talk less and act more.

On his chances at the forthcoming PDP’s national convention, where he seeks to vie for the position of the national secretary of the party, Salis said his records and his effort will count for him to emerge as the national secretary of the PDP.

“From all indications, we learnt that the position of the National Secretary has been zoned to the Southwest and its very likely the ticket stays in Lagos or Ekiti and my chances are very strong with a veritable, active network on ground.
