Nations Cup Qualifier: Eagles' Call Up Excites Oguchi

Uche Oguchi, one of the local players invited by Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, is excited about the opportunity to play for Nigeria in an international friendly match against Liberia.

Coach Keshi, on Thursday, invited 30 players to camp in preparation for their 15 February friendly match against the Lone Star of Liberia.

The 30-man list comprised of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 11 midfielders and eight strikers.

Defender Oguchi, who plays for Nigeria Premier League, NPL side, Heartland Football Club, said the call up came at the right time for the home-based players to show Nigerians that they can hold their heads in the Eagles.

“This is our chance to prove that we can play for Nigeria at the national level and I believe we won’t disappoint the coaches,” he said.

The players are scheduled to report to Abuja camp on Monday and are expected to depart Nigeria on 13 February for the clash against Liberia.

The goalkeepers invited are Chigozie Agbim (Warri Wolves), Okemute Odah (Sharks FC) and Daniel Akpeyi (Heartland FC).

The list has defenders Juwon Oshaniwa (Sharks FC), Osasco Omomo (Sunshine Stars), Azubuike Egwueke (Warri Wolves), Godfrey Oboabona (Sunshine Stars), and Gbenga Arokoyo (Kwara United).

Others are Uche Oguchi (Heartland FC), Ahmed Adesope (3SC) and Papa Idris (Kano Pillars).

The midfielders invited include Ossai Uche (Warri Wolves), Kola Anubi (Sharks FC), Ejike Uzoenyi (Rangers International), Bartholomew Ibenegbu, Kingsley Salami and Stanley Ohabuchi (Heartland FC), and Reuben Gabriel (Kano Pillars).

The rest are Henry Uche (Enyimba FC), Solomon Jabason (Akwa United), Chidi Osuchukwu (Dolphins FC) and Daniel Essien (Niger Tornadoes).

The strikers are Sunday Emmanuel (Enyimba), Sunday Mba, Jude Aneke (Warri Wolves), Izu Azuka (Sunshine Stars), Barnabas Imenger (Kwara United), Kabiru Umar (Heartland FC), Uche Kalu and Ifeanyi Ude (Enyimba FC).
