We Are No Beggars —Ademola’s Family
The family of the late Ademola Abe who was killed during the recent fuel subsidy protest by the DPO attached to Pen Cinema police station, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, Segun Fabunmi has denied the news making the round that they have been compensated by some politicians.
According to a statement issued by the family and signed by Adebayo Olanipekun Abe, the Abe family stated that it is not using the death of Ademola to extort or beg for money from any politician or government agency.
Abe said that “though two politicians namely, Otunba Yomi Ogunnusi, a member of the House of Representatives representing, Ifako Ijaiye Federal Constituency and Chairman, Ijaiye-Ojokoro LCDA paid the family a condolence visit and that during the visit the duo promised to give the family the sum of N700,000 (Ogunnusi N500,000 and Labinjo N200,000)’the pledge is yet to be redeemed.”
The family added “we are using this opportunity to inform the federal, state and our local government that we are not using the opportunity of the Ademola’s death to extort money from any individual or government agency. All we need is justice, that the killer of Ademola must be brought to book.”
While thanking the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola and the Chairman of Ifako- Ijaiye Local Government Area, Toba Oke, for their support, Abe said that the Lagos state government, through the office of the Public Defender has taken over the matter.
Meanwhile, the DPO who pulled the trigger, killing Ademola in the process, has been granted bail, fuelling fears he may eventually be set free.
