Lagos Deputy Governor, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has solicited the collaboration of religious bodies and well-meaning organisations in an effort to tackle youth restiveness and juvenile delinquency in the state.

She said government alone could not fight the scourge, saying that she believed religious leaders could be useful in the attempt to curb this malaise.

The deputy governor spoke at the 2012 Hope Day of the Habitation of Hope, a caregiver ministry founded by the wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Mrs. Folu Adeboye.

Adefulire stated that the government was committed to taking the underprivileged and disadvantaged children off the streets, and provide for them an enabling environment to develop their talents.

She expressed regret that the problem of rural-urban migration as well as population explosion in the major cities of the country was over-stretching the resources of government, hence the call for partnership with the private sector and non-government and humanitarian organisations.

“Our people look up to their spiritual heads for guidance and direction, and it is only appropriate to put in place other measures beyond preaching the gospel or ministering, through which lives can be changed and more souls can be saved,” she stated.
