Jonathan Condoles With Mbu’s Family

President Goodluck Jonathan expressed sadness over the death of Chief Matthew Mbu, Nigeria’s one time Minister of Foreign Affairs, saying that “it is an irreplaceable loss to Nigeria as a nation.”

In a statement issued by Dr. Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity on Monday in Abuja, Jonathan described Mbu as a nationalist, elder statesman, a globalist, and a true diplomat.

The President condoled with the family, noting that the deceased lived an exemplary life of service to Nigeria.

“He was an icon of the legal profession and the Diplomatic Corps, who served Nigeria selflessly as a minister; as

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and in several other capacities.”

The President said that Mbu would be remembered for his several diplomatic assignments and for his calm disposition and mature contributions to national issues.

Specifically, the President recalled Mbu’s positive contributions to the nation during its difficult times and prayed that his soul rest in peace.
