Court Remands 3 Robbery Suspects

Three robbery suspects allegedly terrorising residents of Adekile area of Ibadan were on Tuesday remanded in prison by a Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused persons, Lekan Mukaila, 25; Idowu Karimu, 20 and Lekan Kamoru, 20 were charged with conspiring to commit armed robbery.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Grace Akinsehinwa, told the court that the accused persons at different times dispossessed their victims of telephone sets worth N37,000 and cash totaling N35,440.

The offence, she said, was punishable under section 6 (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provision) Act, Cap. R11, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate F.A. Badrudeen remanded them in prison and adjourned the case till March 13.

In another development, a 31-year-old man, Segun Omodara, was on Tuesday arraigned for robbery.

The prosecutor, Inspector Adewale Amos, said Omodara and others still at large on December 9, 2011 at about 9p.m at Odo Ona area of Ibadan used broken bottles to rob one Adeniyi Segun of his handset valued at N8,000 and N15,000 cash.

Omodara, however, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison on the orders of Badrudeen.

She adjourned the case till March 20.
