Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs have commended the Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Akeem Omoyele Sulaimon, for his performance.

The lawmakers also commended him for his cordial relationship with staff, councillors and other political appointees of the council.

The lawmakers who are on a visit to the 20 local government councils and the 37 LCDAs as part of the committee’s oversight functions said the council chairman has become a yardstick for measuring the success of other council chairmen in the state after they inspected the ultra-modern council building with standard legislative chambers and councillors’ offices which he constructed.

According to the chairman of the committee, Moshood Oshun, who led other members to the council, “Bariga LCDA would be a yardstick for measuring other councils in due course.”

Another member of the committee, Ipoola Omisore said: “Yours will be a template for us to judge other councils.”

They also urged him as Chairman of Conference 57, the umbrella body of the council chairmen in the state, to set standards for his colleagues to follow, just as they warned him against relenting in delivering the dividends of democracy to his people.

Oshun urged the chairman and his functionaries to strive to complement the good work of the government at the state level, adding that whatever achievement they make would further boost the image of their party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

In his reaction, the Bariga LCDA chairman urged the committee to constantly visit the councils as it would keep the chairmen on their toes.

Sulaimon disclosed that as part of the LCDA’s move to ensure robust a legislative arm, the council has almost completed plans to send its councillors to Ghana for training on legislative duties.

He listed other projects which he has either completed or are under construction in the LCDA. They include 16 roads that have been done and other infrastructure and empowerment programmes for his people.
