It was indeed a moment of mourning for the entire students of the department of Hospitality Management at the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State last Friday when they lost one of their beloved colleagues, Miss Brai Faith, to the cold hands of death.
The students were depressed and agony was written on their faces as they sang dirges, carrying a photograph of the deceased in a procession round the department.
They all wore black attires as a sign of mourning their HND 2 colleague. Some of them wept uncontrollably.
Campus Square gathered that the late Faith died of ‘Gastrointestinal infection’ after she underwent an operation.
The news of the deceased was disclosed to her colleagues by family members after persistent inquiries on why she had not resumed for lectures as expected.
Some of the late Faith’s colleagues who spoke with Campus Square described her as a brilliant and easy going student. A very close friend, Onaghise Endurance said: “The news of Faith’s demise shocked me to the marrow. I’m totally confused because she was very gentle. You won’t even know she was in class. She does things on her own. I pray this will never happen again in her family and the department at large.”
Director General of the Auchi Polytechnic Students Security Outfit (APPSO), Otaigbe Courage, described Faith as one of the best students in her class. “She was just extraordinary. I got to hear the news of her death from some of our friends. I think her death was too early and sudden. May her gentle soul rest in peace”.
However, it was another tragedy for the Brai family as Faith’s mother died two days after she received the shocking news of her daughter’s death. She was said to have died of shock.
