2 Nabbed With Adulterated Milk

The police in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have arrested three suspects, a lady and two men, for packaging adulterated Peak Milk for sale to consumers at a reduced price.

The suspects, Ndubisi Okafor, Chukwudi Nwosu and an employee, were arrested at Ojota with eight bags of Peak Milk foils.

Investigations revealed that the police also raided their factory at Aba, Abia State, southeast Nigeria, where they make adulterated milk for sale in Lagos.

P.M.NEWS gathered that they collaborated with some staff of Frieland Campina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, producers of Peak Milk, to steal labels from the company for their fake milk.

The fraud was discovered when the police arrested Okafor with Peak Milk foils at Ojota. On interrogation, he confessed to stealing the foils from the producers of Peak Milk and took the police to Aba where the police recovered the ones he had adulterated and prepared for sale in Lagos.

The suspects were charged before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Oshodi on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and illegal possession ofPeak Milk foils.

The offences, the prosecutor, Mr. Kehinde Olatunde said were contrary to sections 516,390 and 430 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Osho Adebiyi granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The matter has been adjourned till 29 February, 2012 for mention.
