An artisan was on Thursday charged before the Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death with a knife.
The accused, Kabiru Ogunlana (25), was arraigned on a two-count charge of murder and attempted suicide.
His plea was, however, not taken in court.
The prosecutor, Corporal Emmanuel Ajayi, said the accused, a welder, who was living at 33, Popoola St., Mafoluku, Lagos, killed 21-year-old Isiwat Ajani on January 16, at about 4 p.m.
Ajayi said that the accused stabbed his girlfriend on the left side of the rib and also attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself in the stomach.
The prosecutor, however, said the offences contravened Sections 220 and 223 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate Oluwakemi Doja-Ojo remanded the accused in prison custody, pending the outcome of legal advice from the Office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She then adjourned the case till March 15 for further hearing.
