Why My Belgium Deal Failed – Aneke

Record goal scorer in the Nigeria Premier League, NPL with 20 goals last season, Jude Aneke, has attributed his failure to pen a deal with Genk FC of Belgium to poor financial package prepared for him which his agent rejected.

This was contrary to the opinion in some quarters that he failed to secure the contract due to poor medical problems. The former Kaduna United striker insisted that he did very well while on trials with the club where he scored three goals in two matches and passed the medicals.

P.M.Sports gathered that Aneke’s agent felt that he was being undervalued by the club in the financial details of the contract. “I had a wonderful experience in Belgium with Genk. I played two trial matches, scored three goals and the club management really wanted me, I too was eager to play for them. A lot of people were expecting me to play in Europe, but my agent had other reason because the Belgian club undervalued me. I have no choice but to return home.”

Aneke , however, revealed that there are other offers from clubs in Europe, but he is bidding his time to concentrate on his new club, Warri Wolves and the home-based Super Eagles, where the Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi has placed an embargo on players going on trials abroad.
