Nations Cup Qualifiers: Laloko Lauds Home Eagles

Former Technical Director of Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Kashimawo Laloko, is impressed with the performance of the local players invited to the Super Eagles camp.

The team are preparing for the Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda on 29 February in Kigali.

Laloko expressed happiness that the era of relying on foreign- based players to prosecute international matches for Nigeria was over.

The Director of Pepsi Football Academy noted that the local players are good enough to wear the national colours in any international competition.

“We have seen some matches that the home-based Eagles have played and I think they really performed very well. So this is the time to do away with old players and inject fresh legs to the national team”, he said.

He advised Coach Stephen Keshi to select the players that will confront Rwanda on merit and do away with tribal sentiment and favouritism, which may jeopardise Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations slated for South Africa.
