A 32-year-old man, Abiodun Ibrahim, was on Wednesday remanded in prison by an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court court for culpable homicide.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused was arrested while in possession of a polythene bag containing a fresh foetus, black soap as well as cow and ram horns.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Al-hassan Jubril, told the court that the accused and others at large belong to a secret cult which specialised in killing and removing human parts within Ilorin and its environs for ritual.

He, however, said investigation was still ongoing to identify the victim from whom the foetus was removed after being murdered.

The accused was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, belonging to a secret cult and culpable homicide, contrary to Sections 96, 97B and 221 of the Penal Code Law.

The prosecutor objected to bail for the accused on the grounds that the offences were not ordinarily bailable.

He further said that granting the accused bail would jeopardise police investigation.

In her ruling, Magistrate Ibijoke Olawoyin acceded to the submission of the prosecutor and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison while adjourning the case to March 1.
