Students Charged To Protect Their Future
The newly admitted students of the Federal Polytehnic, Auchi, Edo State have been enjoined to eschew any act that can jeopardise their future and academic pursuit in the polytechnic environment.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. (Mrs) Philipha Idogho gave the advice while speaking with new students of Higher National Diploma (HND) and the National Diploma (ND) during the orientation programme held at the institution’s main auditorium recently.
Addressing the students at the 3,000 capacity hall of the auditorium, Dr. Idogho congratulated the new students for gaining admission into the citadel of learning and one of the best federal polytechnics in Nigeria which according to her deals with the development of technology.
She described the school as a friendly environment where students can learn various skills to upgrade and acquire more knowledge but urged them to stay away from hooliganism and cultism on the campus if they want to graduate successfully.
Idogho also advised the fresh students to shun examination malpractices and indecent dressing, warning that severe punishment awaits erring students.
On the comportment of students inside the school library, the Chief Librarian, Mr. Olusheun Ekuoye, urged the students to adhere strictly to the library rules and regulations, promising that the library staff will discipline students found guilty.
“At the library, students are not allowed to charge phones or eat. You can borrow books from the library but remember we have deadlines which attracts a fee after date of expiration,” he warned.
Earlier in his remarks, the institution’s Deputy Rector, Engr. Emmanuel Uche Onochie spoke briefly on “Examination Misconduct and its Effect” during the exam period in the school.
He said students must shun all act of examination malpractices because if caught, expulsion is the penalty.
Some of the students who spoke with Campus Square described the orientation programme as a good thing especially with the advice from the institution’s management team and other students’ union leaders.
In attendance were some of the executives of the school’s Students Union Government, members of the Students Union Parliament, Departmental Leaders and Club Presidents.
