Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, has continued to receive plaudits from some Nigerians for recalling back Blackburn of England star, Yakubu Aiyegbeni to the team.

Yakubu and 10 other foreign-based players were called up to the Eagles by Keshi ahead of the Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda on 29 February in Kigali.

Former Nigerian international, Jonathan Akpoborie, hailed Keshi’s action, saying that Yakubu deserves to play for the country again.

Akpoborie noted that Yakubu’s current scoring form for Blackburn in the English Premier League stands him out among the legion of Nigerian players plying their trades in different leagues abroad.

“In football, a player is as good as his current form in his club. I think Yakubu is the best Nigerian player at the moment. He has scored more goals this season than any Nigerian player both home and abroad,” he said.

“I don’t see any reason the player should be ruled out of the national team because of what happened at the last World Cup in South Africa. He should be given another chance to play for his country,” Akpoborie said.
