Boko Haram Executes Cleric, District Head

The Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday night executed Alhaji Mustapha Geidam, the Distract Head of Geidam in Yobe State, North East Nigeria.

According to THE WILL, an online news portal, the Boko Haram hitmen also assassinated an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Saina Alhaji Ajiya, 60, a cleric based in Konduga town near Maiduguri, the Borno State capital also in Northeast Nigeria.

Investigation revealed that the district head, Mustapha who was a former protocol officier to Senator Buka Abba Ibrahim was assassinated in front of his residence after he had said his prayers.

Contacted, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Tanko Lawan confirmed Mustapha’s execution.

He added that he was attacked and killed in front of his residence.

It was said Boko Haram had earlier sent him a letter to alert him that he had been marked for elimination and that he would be killed except he relocated from his palace.

Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Tizhe also confirmed the killing of Sheikh Ajiya, saying that he was assassinated by Boko Haram hitmen who forcefully entered his residence, fired several shots into his head and chest in the presence of his family members.

No arrests have been made in connection with the killings.

Muslim leaders and Islamic clerics in the North have been withdrawing their support for the Boko Haram Islamist group because of the mode of their operation like indiscriminate and senseless manner the group has promoted its radical Islamic ideology.

The group had launched violent attacks on churches, traders and residents of Kaduna, Kano, Yobe, Borno and other states in the North.

On Christmas Day 2011, Boko Haram bombed worshippers at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla near Abuja and a suburb of Niger State.

At least 44 parishoners died in the attack while several others were wounded and properties destroyed.

Yesterday, the terrorists struck again at Christ Embassy Church in Suleja, Niger State. Five persons were injured when a bomb planted outside the church exploded.
