Man Receives 10 Strokes Of Cane For Theft

An Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that an accused, John Apever, be given 10 strokes of cane for stealing two extension cables valued at N4,000.

The Police prosecutor, Buba Irinmiya, told the court that on February18, Yahya Lukman, of Halogan Security Company attached to Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Abuja, reported the matter at Utako Police Station.

He said that the accused of Kachiko, Bwari, Abuja, was caught on February16, with two extension cables belonging to the FIRS.

Irinmiya said the accused stole the two cables from a room in FIRS where he was working as a painter.

He said the accused was charged with theft which contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge.
