The state of dart in Lagos State is a source of worry to the new board of Lagos State Dart Association, LSDA, headed by Prince Adedayo Olowu.

To this end, the board has promised that it would leave nothing to chance to ensure that the status of the sport is elevated in the state as soon as possible.

Prince Olowu said the new board is determined to take the sport to the next level in line with the desire of the state governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, who is using sports to empower the youths.

He noted that though dart is an elite sport, the association wants to repackage the sport to become a force to reckon with in the state.

For this reason, the board is planning to organise a two-day tournament tagged 1st LSDA Championship from 1-2 March at the Dart Section of the Lagos Country Club with 36 players from nine clubs in action.

P.M.Sports gathered that each of the clubs will produce four players to play in 501 singles in the tournament, aiming at keeping the state’s players busy.

He said the players would be exposed to series of events in a bid to keep them in top shape ahead of the National Sports Festival, which Lagos will hold in November, 2012.

“We are planning to attract corporate sponsors to support our quest for sporting excellence in dart. We are also planning to organise seminars for the players as well as the coaches to keep them informed about the latest trend in the game,” said Prince Olowu, who described the performance of the state’s athletes at the last Sports Festival in Port Harcourt as not too good.

Lagos won a bronze medal at the Garden City Games last year.
