Hall Of Fame Takes Boxing To Schools

Young talents in the give and take sport in Lagos will have the opportunity to express themselves tomorrow as the 28th Saturday Monthly Boxing Show holds at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Lagos.

The monthly event, which is full of great fireworks, is packaged by the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, LBHF, in conjuction with the Lagos Boxing Association, LABA.

Speaking with Boxing In Focus, LBHF Chairman, Wale Edun, said that the boxing tourney has tilted in favour of young talents who can do the country proud in the near future.

“The aim of this monthly show is to discover young talents that are interested in boxing and nurture them to become world champions. These young boxers can become champions in the near future if they are properly groomed,” said Edun.

He added: “In the coming edition, we will feature school children who are aspiring to become famous and successful in the sport. We believe that the show will give them the opportunity to express themselves.”

In the first bout of the event, Tunde Sumade of Ola Akins Boxing Club will have a showdown with Sulaimon Afisi of Olu Omo Boxing Club in the 60kg category, while Israel Akinola of Golden Star Boxing Club will be up against Idris Ibraheem of Kudi Abiola Boxing Club in the 50kg category.

Shina Balogun of Kudi Abiola Boxing Club will stand toe-to-toe with Qudus Aliu of Teberson Boxing Club in the 75kg category, while Tajudeen Sodiq of Golden Boxing Club will try his strength against Peter Bender of Lion Boxing Club in the 68kg category.

The only female bout of the event will involve Ayobami Mustapha of Progressive Boxing Club and Bose Oshomo of Smart Boxing Club in the 58kg category, while Saviour Francis and Joseph Badejo, who are both students of Nigeria Model High School, Mushin, will slug it out in an exhibition bout.

The duo of Hakeem Akinade of Ola Akins Boxing Club and Junior Lukman of Teberson Boxing Club will put their strength to the test in the 52kg category, while Taiye Oluwo of Diamond Boxing Club and Olaide Mufutau of Golden Boxing Club will exchange punches in the 65kg category.

In the 69kg category, Niyi Emmanuel of Blessed Boxing Club will try to outpunch Ademola Azeez of Lagelu Boxing Club in the 69kg category, while the last bout of the event will involve Michael Oriyomi of Blessed Boxing Club, as he fends off a strong challenge from Adeleke Adedeji of Diamond Boxing Club in the 65kg category.
