Boxing: Young Boxers Shine In Lagos Hall Of Fame

Young boxers, Saviour Francis and Joseph Badejo, both from Nigeria Model High School, Mushin, Lagos State, thrilled boxing fans in the just concluded 28th edition of the Monthly Saturday Boxing Show organised by the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame.

Ten-year old Badejo, who defeated Francis on points in a three-round contest, said his ambition is to become a future champion, as he prefered boxing to other combat sports.

On his own part, Francis said renowned boxing star, Mohammed Ali, spurred him to develop interest in boxing, reiterating that that the sport would not affect his academic pursuits.

Their coach, Babalola Oladipupo, who said the duo have been under his tutelage for over a month, said the youngsters have been responding positively to training and they have the potentials to become future stars.

The talented boxers, therefore, called on the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, to create a platform for youngsters who have passion for sports in the state to excel in their chosen careers.

Other boxers who were declared winners in different categories at the contest last Saturday include, Tunde Sumade, Israel Akinola, Shina Balogun, Tajudeen Sodiq, Hakeem Akinade, Taiye Oluwo, Ademola Azeez and Micheal Oriyomi.
