Go And Kill Eagles, Rwanda Minister Charges Amavubi

Rwanda’s Minister of Sports and Culture, Protais Mitali, has urged the national team, Amavubi Stars to emulate the recent heroics of African champions Zambia when they host Nigeria’s Super Eagles tomorrow in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations first leg qualifier.

The Chipolopolo defied the odds to stun star-studded favourites, Ivory Coast 8:7 in a penalty shootout in the final to claim their maiden African title in Gabon-Equatorial Guinea.

“Players need to look no further than the final of the 2012 Nations Cup. We all saw what Zambia did to Ivory Coast,” Mitali noted, according to the New Times of Rwanda.

“They (Zambia) were the underdogs but that did not affect their confidence and determination.

“You (Amavubi) will have the whole nation backing you on Wednesday. Go and prove yourself to the country and indeed Africa that you can do it,” Mitali rallied the team.

The Rwandan players have also been promised huge bonuses to beat the two-time African champions, Nigeria.

In ten games under Serbian coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, the Amavubi have won seven, drawn two and lost only one.
