Men Besiege LG Secretariat Over Marriage Opportunity

Dozens of men on Monday besieged Malumfashi Local Government Secretariat in Katsina State over an opportunity to marry widows or divorcees and receive N30,000 and two bags of grains.

NAN learnt that a town crier had gone round at the weekend and announced that interested men looking for marriage partners should visit the council secretariat on Monday as widows and divorcees would be available for them to choose.

The announcer further said that the prospective husbands would get N30,000 and two bags of grains in addition.

Malam Nuhu Garba and Malam Iliya Musa, who came for the deal, said they were at the secretariat because of the announcement but could not see any woman.

Garba said no council worker had addressed them on the issue “and some of us came from distant villages”.

Meanwhile, the council’s Information Officer, Malam Isma’ila Abu, said the council authorities were not aware of the plan.

Abu said the authorities had been searching for the town crier to explain how he came about the information and who directed him to spread it.
