The Chairman, Alimosho Local Government Area, Mr. Israel Olusola Adekunle has enjoined residents of the local government area and Lagos in general to be wary of the recent outbreak of Lassa fever in the state and country at large.

Speaking during an unscheduled visit to the Primary Health Centre of the local government, Adekunle told both out-patients and in-patients that the menace had already taken more than 40 lives all over the country; and the need to avoid eating food and drinks that has been contaminated by rodents’ fecal matter and urine cannot be overemphasized.

He stressed that a zero tolerance approach will be applied and that the waste and sanitation unit of the local government had began aggressive cleaning and fumigation of the entire local government area. Adekunle, however, insisted that the cooperation of all residents was necessary as people should take the War Against Rodents (WAR) to their homes and ensure that their environment does not become a haven for rodents. “There and then, we will have a clean and healthy environment that is not vulnerable to Lassa fever.

“Let us all ensure that sanitation in our various homes is a per minute affair as this will help guarantee a safe and clean environment devoid of rodents that cause the dreaded Lassa fever,” Adekunle said.
