An Abuja Area Court on Wednesday sentenced a 21-year-old sales girl, Rejoice Eni, to one month imprisonment on a three-count charge of forgery, theft and criminal breach of trust.

Eni is to serve one month imprisonment on each count or pay a fine of N2,000 on each count.

The Area Court Judge, Mr. Abdul Mohammed, who convicted Eni as she pleaded guilty, also ordered that N500,000 found in the convict’s Oceanic Bank account be released to the complainant.

The police prosecutor, Insp Egwu Clement, had told the court that Mr. Unkabor Kingsley of Kado Fish Market lodged a complain against the convict on February 17, at Life Camp Police Station.

He said that Eni was a sales girl to the complainant and he entrusted her with N700,000 sometime in 2010.

The prosecutor told the court that Kingsley gave the money to the convict to deposit in his company’s bank account at Zenith Bank.

He said that unknown to the complainant, she opened a personal account with the name Eni Catherine Chinosa at Oceanic Bank, Kado.

Clement said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to have committed the offence and N500,000 was found in her Oceanic Bank account.

He said though N200,000 was still in her possession, the complainant told her that he had forgiven her and would not be asking for any compensation.

“We could have asked for a compensation of N200,000 but the complainant being benevolent said he has forgiven her but we pray the court to release the N500,000 in her possession to him.”
