Non-adherence by members to rule of law has been described as the cause of constant clashes in trade unionism.

This position was given by the acting chairman of the Management Committee of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede while addressing members during the monthly meeting of the state council in Lagos Council office of the union.

To put a stop to the ugly situation, Agbede explained that members of his management committee would administer the state council by rule of law.

“We usually have problem when people don’t follow the constitution. If you deny people their right their reaction can cause unrest. This committee shall constantly highlight the importance of the rule of law so that no member will run foul of the union’s constitution and rule of law,” he said.

He explained that the present administration in the state council is prepared to work to see that peace and tranquility reign in Lagos State.

To sustain peace, he stated that his management committee would ensure that nobody is dislodged or expelled on account of any misconduct without the consent of the National Headquarters of the union.

To maintain the union, he appealed to members to always ensure that they fulfill all their financial commitment to the state council, stating that the council cannot survive without the financial support from its members.

The NURTW boss assured members that he would run an open-door government, which will allow members to make contributions.

“ No man is an island and it is my belief that each and every one of us possess qualities to move the union forward and I am using this opportunity to appeal to you all to continue to cooperate and be loyal for peace to reign.”

The National Headquarters of the union, last week, appointed a 14-man management committee led by Chief Tajudeen Agbede to lead the union in the state pending when election will be conducted to pick new leaders to run the affairs of the council in the state.
