Lagos Organises Seminar For Security Personnel
Security personnel, including the police, soldiers and others are fond of breaking traffic laws on roads in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. They drive against the traffic at will, beat up traffic officers who tried to stop them from their nefarious acts.
It was in a bid to curb these illegalities that the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Traffic management Authority, LASTMA, put together a two-day interactive session for top law enforcement agencies, especially officers and men of Nigeria Army, Navy, Air Force and Police.
The interactive session has the theme: The Development of Corporative Strategies amongst Law Enforcement Agencies for Effective Traffic Management in Lagos State.
The interactive session, which was facilitated by a renowned consultant, Mr. Sesan Awonoiki, of the Universal Anchor was to address the flagrant disobedience of law and order in the State by security personnel and finding a lasting solution to the undesirable acts.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education, Dr. Temitope Masha said the aim of the event was to promote mutual understanding between LASTMA and other security formations, while urging all concerned to fashion a systemic and scientific method of implementation without any discomfort to the public or encroachment on their rights.
She explained further that uniformed men by their training should comport themselves at all times, respect the established authority/ constitution within the operational scope in which they find themselves and avoid unnecessary assault on innocent civilians.
Representative of the Commander 535, Ojo Command, Captain David Musa reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Army to support and complement the effort of LASTMA by propagating the need for all ranks and files to obey traffic rules and regulations.
Also speaking for the Nigeria Police, Ayilara Waheed said the police will not condone any act of indiscipline and charged the officers to be of good behaviours whenever they are on the road.
General Manager, LASTMA, Babatunde Edu lamented the attitude of military personnel in violating or encouraging others to violate traffic laws, saying that despite the efforts high ranking officers, some bad eggs among the law enforcement agents have continued to engage in illegalities.
