In its bid to secure Olympics ticket, Vice President of Nigeria Judo Federation, NJF, Olakitan De Souza, has insisted that the body will sponsor Nigerian Judokas to the forthcoming African Judo Championsips.

De Souza said that the move is necessary due to the decision of the Nigeria Sports Commission, NSC, to exclude Judo from the sports that Nigeria will feature at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The NJF topshot added that the federation will go ahead with its decision to participate at the qualifier, saying that the sole responsibility of sponsoring players to championships rests with the body and not the NSC.

“The NSC has already decided that judo will not feature at the London Olympics. But the federation will make sure that Nigerian judokas compete at the African Judo Championships because two of them have already qualified to participate at the tourney.

De Souza said that the federation will do all within its power to make the qualified players feature at the championship with the aim of winning Olympic tickets for the country.

“It is the duty of the federation to take our players to the championship and not the responsibility of the NSC as many people believe. That is why we want to try our best to make sure that the judokas compete at the qualifier,” said De Souza.

De Souza said further that it is now left for the NSC to decide whether to take the players to the Olympics or not after they have qualified for the games.

“We will sponsor the players to the championship and make sure that they qualify for the Olympics. We will now wait to see whether the NSC will say that they cannot go to the Olympics after they have gone extra mile to qualify for the games,” added De Souza.
