Youngstars Football Club of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Southwest, Nigeria, have concluded plans to go on playing tour of Benin Republic.
The Abeokuta-based club will leave the shore of Nigeria in the second week of March. Before their trip, the club will play a friendly match against a team from Niger State as part of their preparation.
Coach of the team, Ademola Abimbola, who spoke with P.M.Sports in Ijebu-Ode recently, said the purpose of the trip is to expose the players to international football.
He said the playing tour will help them initiate a football relationship with other amateur clubs from West African countries.
“As you can see, we have many talented footballers in the team that can compete with their counterparts in other parts of the country and Africa in general.
“Our aim is to expose our players to garner more experience by playing high profile friendly matches with established and tested clubs,” he said.
Recently, the team competed in the Owode Egba Day tourney, where they got to the quarter final before they were defeated 14-13 via penalty shoot-outs by Destiny FC.
They also have a cordial football relationship with some Nigeria Premier League, NPL, teams like Sunshine Stars of Akure, Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Ocean Boys and Ajiroba FC in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Abimbola said his target is to promote the club to the Nigerian Amateur League and hopefully, to win the forthcoming Ogun FA Cup to enable them represent the state in the Federation Cup.”
