Machete wielding Guard Jailed six years
A High Court in Asaba, Delta State in Nigeria’s South South region on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old security man, Mohammed Adamu, to six years imprisonment with hard labour for allegedly attempting to murder his boss’ wife, with a machete.
The Chief Judge , Justice Abiodun Smith, who did not give the convict an option of fine, said, he was satisfied with his guilty plea.
Smith said that although the convict pleaded for leniency, it was not granted because he was found guilty of the offence.
In his judgment, Smith said, “I take cognisance of the principle guiding sentencing, the accused is found guilty of the offence because the record before the court showed that he committed the offence.
“I have also considered his plea and, therefore, sentence him to six years imprisonment with hard labour, commencing from the date he was arraigned before this court.’’
The Prosecutor, State Legal Counsel, Miss Tosan Eko, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on 18 January, 2011 at C2, Onwuegbuna crescent, off Okpanam Road, Asaba.
She also said that, the accused, on the same day and place, attempted to murder one Mrs Uche Nwosa, who was a wife to his employer, by giving her machete cuts on her head and some parts of her body.
Eko said that, the offence contravened section 320 of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta, 2006.
