Applications for the 112th US Open were posted online by the US Golf Association (USGA) early this week, with thousands of players from around the world expected to enter by the 25 April deadline.
The event, to be staged June 14-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, is open to professionals and amateurs with a handicap not above 1.4 under the USGA grading system.
The USGA received 8,300 entries for last year’s US Open, down from the record 9,086 for the 2009 event at Bethpage Black near New York.
Local qualifying events will be staged at 109 sites from 30 April to 17 May with sectional qualifiers on 21 May at Shizuoka, Japan; 28 May at Surrey, England, and at 11 US courses on 4 June.
Entries are also being accepted for the US Women’s Open, to be played from 5-8 July at Kohler, Wisconsin, and the US Senior Open for players 50 and older, to be conducted form 12-15 July at Lake Orion, Michigan.
