Lagos To Refurbish 254 Health Centres Says Lawmaker

The Chairman, Lagos Assembly Committee on Health Services, Suru Avoseh, has said that the State Government has concluded plans to refurbish over 254 health centres to meet the yearnings of the people of the state.

Avoseh, who revealed this in Badagry during a tour of the General Hospital in the area, added that there was pressure on the General Hospitals in the state.

He said this was the reason the government would embark on the refurbishment and reconstruction of most of the health centres in all the 57 Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Area by April this year.

According to the lawmaker, the health care centres would be equipped with appropriate technology and highly motivated staff.

“We want improvement in our hospitals to a standard that is comparable to the developed countries”.

“Our visit here is to see the working environment of Badagry hospital and also to know how you spend your budget,” Avoseh said.

Earlier, the Medical Director, Dr. Gbolahan Durojaiye, said Badagry General Hospital, which has 370 staff with 26 doctors and 103 nurses was facing some challenges which include; insufficient drugs and erratic power supply stressing that these hinder the smooth operation of the hospital.
