Minister Donates N2m To Accident Victims

Chief Olajumoke Akinjide, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, has donated N2 million to some accident victims at the Bola Ige market.

Akinjide donated the money on Wednesday during her visit to the market to commiserate with the Board of Trustees of the market as well as affected traders.

The minister also promised to set up a scholarship scheme to fund the education of the traders’ children.

She, however, said the PDP in the state would on its own assist the market in its development initiatives.

The FCT minister, who was received at the market by hundreds of traders and PDP faithful, said she was setting up the scholarship scheme in her own capacity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that seven traders at the market died in a motor accident last week on their way from Aba, Abia, while 14 others were injured.

Akinjide said she was pleased to learn that both Governor Abiola Ajimobi and Senator Ayo Adeseun had also visited the market to commiserate with the traders.

She further said: “ We as PDP have come too. You know in PDP, any minister representing the state where the party has no governor is the leader of the party in such state.

“As the minister representing Oyo State, I have come to commiserate with you.

“We will also support you in all ways. I will send people to sit down with the Board of Trustees and discuss what will be beneficial to the market and what the Federal Government can do to help the market.”

Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, the former deputy governor of the state, who accompanied the minister, prayed against a recurrence.

A market leader, Alhaji Y.K. Abass, commended the minister for her donation and support to the children of the victims.
