Police Dock 4 For Attack On Lawmaker
Four men were on Wednesday in Lagos arraigned for allegedly damaging 25 vehicles during an attack on a federal lawmaker on March 4 in the Ebute Meta area of the metropolis.
The prosecution put the cost of the damaged items at N3 million.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rep. Musiru Alao of the Action Congress of Nigeria was allegedly attacked by some persons for refusing to part with some money.
The accused, Soji Ajala, 30; Saka Olusesi, 36; Agbor Oyemi, 27; and Nasiru Zafarawa, 23, are standing trial at an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court on a five-count charge, felony, causing fear, breach of peace, damage and stabbing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Idowu Onime, told the court that the accused had on March 4 at about 11a.m. on Market Street, Ebute Meta, damaged the windscreens, side mirrors and window glasses of vehicles.
He said the accused, with others still at large, damaged the vehicles during a fracas involving some youths in the area.
According to Onime, the damaged vehicles included a Toyota Wagon with registration number DK 893 LND, Volvo 240 DL model with registration number CF 565 LSR and a Nissan bluebird.
He said the accused also stabbed Mr. Kingsley Okpara with a broken bottle on the chest during the fracas.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 56, 171, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate Helen Omisore granted each of the accused a bail in the sum of one million naira, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to April 16 for further hearing. (NAN)
