4 Die In Cop, Robbers Crossfire


Four persons, including a police constable, were killed in a crossfire between police and suspected armed robbers in a hideout at Asarara village in Zamfara.

Alhaji Tambari Yabo, the state Commissioner of Police, said this while briefing newsmen on the incident in Gusau on Saturday.

He said that following a tip-off, the police special patrol squad raided a house at Asarara in Shinkafi Local Government Area.

Yabo said on arrival, the suspected robbers opened fire on the police patrol team, killing a constable, Malam Lawali Usman.

He stated that the constable was killed in crossfire because he disobeyed the patrol commander’s order to lie down and take cover.

The Commissioner of Police said that during the crossfire, the police killed three of the suspected robbers and arrested five others, adding that one suspect escaped and was still at large.

He disclosed that the police recovered a 7.2mm ammunition, cutlass and assorted dangerous weapons from the house.

Yabo said the police also arrested one Abdullahi Kada, who allegedly conspired with three others, still at large, and snatched a motorcycle belonging to one Nura Nadiya at Yandoto in Tsafe Local Government Area.
