Kwara Hail Referee In Port Harcourt

An official of Kwara United has hailed referee Ibrahim Umar despite their 0-1 loss to Sharks at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the weekend.

Sharks’ late winner was netted by Hope Febriesema in the 90th minute.

“I must commend the referee, Ibrahim Umar, for the way he handled the match. He was so firm and in charge of the game. We were happy with him despite the loss, even the home fans saluted him for a yeoman’s job,” said Kwara United’s spokesman Olusola Ajide.

“This is how it should be. If officiating in all the NPL games are like this, NPL will be better off and would be a respectable league on the continent and around the world.”

He said his team lost the game due to the wastefulness of the strikers in front of goal.

“We ought not to lose the match, considering how we played and the begging chances we had. We had seven begging chances but we did not convert any,” Ajide told MTNFootball.com.

With the game seemingly destined for a draw, unheralded midfielder, Fibresima, popped up at the far post to power home an unstoppable header into the bottom corner.

“I had no doubts that we would win this game. It was my first goal of the season and I just want to commend the fans for their support,” he told SuperSport.com after the match.
