The Lagos State House of Assembly has urged the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Eradication to intensify efforts to better the lives of children in the state through good programmes and the co-operation with the House.

Omotayo Oduntan, Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, expressed this during a familiarisation tour of the Ministry.

“We have turned our kids to bread winners instead of allowing them to enjoy their youth,” Oduntan lamented. “It’s our entire fault; let’s go back to the basics to know where we lost it.”

She enjoined the Women Affairs Ministry to partner with the House of Assembly by informing them of their programmes so that the lawmakers can extend the programmes to their constituencies for wider coverage.

She reminded the Ministry that if the status of children in the state is improved, it will spread to other parts of the country.

Oduntan, whose committee also visited the Women Development Centre, Agege, appealed to the students at the centre to be serious with their studies so that the women among them would not end up becoming liabilities to their husbands.

The Committee members were told that courses available at the centre include Hair Dressing, Catering and Hotel Management, Soap Making, Adult Literacy among others.
