Businessman Charged With N10m Theft

The police in Lagos have arraigned Chris Oshai, 52, before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a count charge of stealing N10 million.

The police stated in their charge suit number E/9/2012 that the accused was arrested following a written complaint by the management of First Cardinal Services Ltd, that they supplied the accused goods valued at N10 million to sell on commission per centage and refund the proceeds as agreed, but the accused after the disposal of the products converted the proceeds to his personal use.

All efforts to recover the money proved futile.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly denied the allegation of theft but admitted that there was a transaction between the complainant and himself.

At the conclusion of investigation, Oshai was charged to court for stealing. The offence, Prosecutor Odugbo Innocent, said contravened Section 285(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The charge reads: “That you, Chris Oshai sometime in the month of October 2010 at Award Interiors Limited, 387, Borno Way, Yaba, Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N10 million, property of First Cardinal Global Services.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Ogunsanya admitted him to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties who must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.

She adjourned the matter to 20 March, 2012 for mention.
