Guard Arrested For Impersonation

A security guard working for a private outfit in Ikoyi, Lagos, Haruna Disu, has been arrested for impersonating a police corporal.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Haruna was picked up by policemen from the Ikoyi Division and transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, for further interrogation.

The suspect was arrested at Mac Gregor Junction, Ikoyi, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, in an operation led by Supol Lucky.

Haruna reportedly confessed that he picked up a police identity card on the ground at Falomo area, Ikoyi and stole a police uniform at Thompson Street. This, he used to take his passport photograph, after which he returned the police uniform. He then placed the passport on the identity card.

The suspect, a commercial motorcyclist, said he was showing the fake identity card to area boys and policemen whenever they accosted him while riding his unregistered motorcycle.

He also confessed to have been using the identity card for about a year to ease his movement.

Haruna claimed he was deeply interested in police job and applied for it once but he was not selected.

He continued with his security job and was supporting himself with proceeds from his motorcycle business. He explained that the fake identity card made things easier for him at police checkpoints because any time he presented it, he was not searched.
