Imoke Appoints 15 Commisioner -Designate

Liyel Imoke: death rumours debunked

Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke as a follow up to the appointment of 28 Special Advisers on Monday followed it up by sending a list of 15 commissioner-nominees to the Cross River State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

 

The list is made up of seven former Commissioners and eight new ones. It includes Barr. Attah Ochinke who headed Ministry of Justice, Dr (Mrs) Angela Oyo-Ita, Dr. Sandy Onor, formerly of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. James Aniyom, former chief of staff to Donald Duke, Rev. Costakis Etim Caiafas, who headed the Ministry of Finance, Engr. Elemi Etowa, Mr. Patrick Ugbe (Information) and Chief Peter Ojie, former state deputy chairman of PDP.

 

Others on the list are Prof. Offiong Offiong, who headed Education Ministry, Mr. Akin Ricketts, Engr. Bassey Oqua, Barr. Legor Idagbo, the current chairman of Bekwara local Government and chairman of council chairmen in the state, Mrs. Edak Iwuchukwu, formerly of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Surveyor Ralph Uche and Barr. Inyang Patricia Endeley.

 

In a letter from Imoke to the Assembly dated 19 March 2012, the Governor stated that his request was pursuant to section 192(2) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

 

He further stated that the nominations fulfilled the provisions of section 14 (14) that require that the appointments recognize the diversity of the people within the state.

 

He therefore requested the House to confirm and approve the nominations as forwarded.

 

The nominations were received accordingly and committed to the Committee on Judiciary and Due Process to screen the nominees and report back to the House in two weeks.
